Sacraments at Our lady of grace parish

“Sacraments are ‘powers that come forth’ from the Body of Christ, which is ever-living and life-giving. They are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in his Body, the Church. They are ‘the masterworks of God’ in the new and everlasting covenant.” – Catechism of the Catholic Church

Partaking in the graces of the Sacraments is one of the foundational ways that we can be in direct contact with our God, nurturing each of us personally and spiritually and fulfilling the promise of the divinity we all share through God, our Father and the sacrifice of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and via the unifying presence of the Holy Spirit.

Our Lady of Grace offers guidance and aid for all who seek these Sacraments.

Sacraments Offered at Our Lady of Grace Church

Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis for the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit” and provides access to the other Sacraments. The Lord has told us through Scripture that it is necessary for salvation and leaves an indelible spiritual mark who receives its graces, not just through the forgiveness of sins, but through renewal and rebirth in the Holy Spirit.
Baptism is available for anyone of any age as long as they have not been previously baptized in a Trinitarian faith. For those between the ages of 13-18, the OLG RCIA Teen program is available.

Eucharist - first holy communion

Receiving the Eucharist, or Holy Communion, connects us with what we as Catholics know to be the “source and summit of Christian life”. The Eucharist is the memorial of Jesus’ Paschal sacrifice for us, and by partaking in the re-presentation of that singular sacrifice for salvation of all, we are able to bear witness to the true physical presence of Jesus’ body and blood through the Eucharist, as well as participate fully in the Divinity that God has shared with us.

Eucharistic services are provided at all OLG Masses and available to anyone who has received this sacrament before. For those who are homebound, special request may be made for Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministering, please inquire with the OLG Office or submit an online form

Preparations for receiving 1st Eucharist are available for youth through CFF program once they are at least 1st grade age. For those who are above the age of 13, the OLG RCIA program is available for those seeking this Sacrament. Preparation for 1st Eucharist is traditionally a 2 year course of study, regardless if enrolled in CFF, OLG school sacramental program, or RCIA programs.

For more information on registering for Sacramental preparation, please submit an online form and Faith Formation team will contact you shortly.

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the culmination of the Rite of Christian Initiation and complete the graces we initially receive at our Baptism. Through confirmation, we are anointed and sealed fully into the Holy Spirit, becoming fully fledged members of the Catholic Church. Those seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation are pledging to themselves, to God, and to their Brothers and Sisters in the Church a commitment to living a life in Jesus Christ.

Preparations for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation are available for youth through the CFF program once they are at least 6th grade age. For those who are above the age of 13, the OLG RCIA program is available for those seeking this Sacrament. Preparation for confirmation is traditionally a 2 year course of study, regardless if enrolled in CFF, OLG school sacramental program, or RCIA programs.

Marriage - Sacrament of Matrimony

To receive the Sacrament of Matrimony, or Marriage, within the Catholic church means to enter into “matrimonial covenant” with Christ as the center of your union. “In the Latin Rite the celebration of marriage between two Catholic faithful normally takes place during Holy Mass, because of the connection of all the sacraments with the Paschal mystery of Christ.”

The Sacrament of Matrimony is available to any consenting faithful, baptized in the Holy Spirit, and free to contract marriage. For those seeking consultation on Marriage Preparation and arranging for Matrimonial services at Our Lady of Grace, inquiries can be made with the OLG Parish Office by filling out the form below. Congratulations on your decision to get married in the Catholic Church!

We are excited you are considering Our Lady of Grace to be a part of the celebration of your sacrament. The Catholic Church has established a number of basic requirements for the celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage. In order to fulfill these requirements, to ensure sacred celebration of the Sacrament and to facilitate preparation for marriage, please contact Father Matthew at least six months prior to the anticipated wedding date.

Reconciliation - Confession

Reconciliation, or the sacrament of Confession as it can be referred, is sacrament of forgiveness and reconciliation between ourselves and God and His Holy Church. Though we are cleansed of our sins through Baptism, the weakness of human nature can often lead us to sin, which weakens our relationship with God. This sacrament, made possible by the endless fountain of mercy that God poured out for us through the blood of Jesus Christ, allows us to be forgiven our sins and reinforce our spiritual life and relationship with God via acts of penance and absolution.

Preparations for receiving 1st Reconciliation are available for youth through CFF program in tandem with 1st Eucharist or confirmation preparations. For those who are above age of 13, the OLG RCIA program is available for those seeking this Sacrament for the first time. Those who have already received the Sacrament for the first time and wishing to receive it again may attend OLG weekly Reconciliation Services (weekly Saturday, 4:45pm – 5:15pm), or through appointment inquiries with the OLG Parish Office (or submit an online form)

Anointing Of The Sick - Extreme Unction

Those who are suffering from ailments can seek the Sacrament of Anointing, which provides particular gifts of the Holy Spirit, including but not limited to strength, peace, Unity with the passion of Christ, and for those suffering from serious illness or infirmity, preparation for the final journey. This Sacrament is repeatable if the ailing, having recovered previously, becomes gravely ill again, or if their original conditions become more severe during the same illness.

The Anointing of the sick can be administered to a member of the faithful who, having reached the use of reason, begins to be in danger due to sickness or old age. For those seeking this sacrament, inquiries can be made with the OLG Parish Office, or by submitting an online form for request.
